We Survived...

Well, we made it back from a successful family vacation!! Yay! We flew out for Anaheim, on Sunday the 17th, stayed there until Wed. then drove down to San Diego and was there for the rest of the week, flying home on the 24th. It was a long 8 days, but fun. Disneyland & California Adventures was great, not too busy, not too hot, just right. The food is obscenely expensive!! We went to IHOP and had a $90 dollar breakfast, holy hell!! $90, are you kidding me IHOP. San Diego was much more realistic, thank heavens. Brent bought himself a GPS, named it Lola, and still managed to get us lost at every turn. When the GPS tells you to turn in a mile, it really means it. Funny how that works. I loved Sea World and the Zoos. The Shamu show made me tear up, nerdy I know, but it's so sweet when the trainers hug the whales. Colton was done with the animal looking by the 2nd day. I wanted to go look at the elephants, (they had babies) his response to this was "oh my hell, if you've seen 1 elephant, you've seen them all." So there, NO elephants for me. The boys had a great time at the beach, body surfing and finding shells. The last time we were in California, the boys were way younger. I didn't notice what a freak show it is. So many weirdo's. There was so many homeless people in San Diego, I couldn't believe it. Also alot of gay couples. Who knew, Disneyland fun for all sorts.

Rough start to mothers day....

I had to work Friday and Saturday night shift- which means I go to work at 3 pm and work until 3:30 am. Insane I know, so my mothers day started out really early. Brent and the boys had taken the boat out for a while, and then decided to surprise me with getting the yard all trimmed up. Our weed eater has been broke since last season, the lawn was getting shaggy all over. What he was supposed to do. Go to home depot, buy a new weed eater and get his mom a gift card. What he did. Bought a riding lawn mower, the weed eater. No gift card. You can't send them anywhere alone. The yard does look nice. That I will admit. When I got home from work, the boys had bought some beautiful roses, and drew me a card. Very nice. I was sitting in the office winding down from work when Colton came in. He gave me a hug, right there I knew something was wrong. When I asked what, he told me that Bailey had rolled over onto his kitten and smashed him. I wasn't quite sure what the verdict was going to be. But, sadly he was definitely smashed, and not alive. Colton was so sad. I went and got Brent up to help with this. We had a good talk about how it was a freak accident, and the most important thing is that he knew that he was a loved kitty. Still very sad:( So, we found Colton a new kitten, and named her Sugar. Gordo beats the crap out of her, but they are starting to get along. On another note, we really are getting ran over with animals. We let our friends put their ponies into our pasture. They are very cute. Its not called the funny farm for nothing.

Kylie...

I can't believe how fast time flys!! My niece Kylie turned 8 on monday. She is the cutest, and so funny. She'd have to be, being the only girl grandchild in the group. At first you kind of feel sorry for her, until you hear her whipping the boys into shape, and whip them she can. She's the best. Happy Birthday Kylie girl.

Race and Alexa...

I love love my niece and nephew. They are the cutest ever. When Race was born, I asked Alexa if she liked her new baby brother? She said "I wanted a puppy" Race is all boy all the time. Trucks, trucks and dirt. And Alexa is my beautiful princess, she definitely knows it to. Shay always tells us that we spoil her so bad that she is coming to live with us when she gets older. Yay, bring it on. Happy Birthday to both of them. 5 and 3~ I can't believe how time flys.

Kittens & Dancing...

The kittens have decided that their favorite spot to hang is on shoulders. Especially if you are sitting down anywhere. Everyone else just moves them, but Brent the softie lets them stay and then will call for help if he wants or needs to move. Animals, move them. I can't wait until their big enough to live outside in the shop. Right now they are still to small and the skunks and raccoons will eat them. On another note, my gorgeous niece had her first dance review last night. Pretty fun stuff, pre-school dance is the best. I love the confused looks on all of the faces and the teachers frantically trying to keep everyone watching them, and in line. Alexa did the best toe touches and the best cartwheels.

Going to hell!!

So, I'm going to hell. Really. Brent brought home 5 kittens from a job site. Somebody had abandoned them and the contractor was going to push them into the foundation hole and bury them. So, Brent being the softie that he is brought them home. I was fine with it because I knew that we would be able to give them away with no problem. They are very, very cute. The 2 grey kittens, went to one of Brents employees moms. Here's the going to hell part. Our neighbor boy, Wyatt, attached himself to the tan kitten. So I put a bow on it and told him to go show his mom their new kitty. And sat down to wait. Melissa took about 3 minutes to show up at the door, to ask what the heck was going on. I said he loves it, and needs it. He got the kitten. So we are down to the 2 that we are going to keep, the black ones. We are also dog-sitting our neighbors dog. She hates me, and I'm not really a fan of her. Every time we let her outside, she crawls under the fence, and runs away. Is it a bad thing when the animals out number the people??

Earthworm suicide & other weird animal stuff...

Who knew that earthworms only commit suicide in Utah?? Not I. With all of the rain we have been getting, there are worms everywhere. They are always out when it rains~ Gross, but true. I guess in Georgia, where one of the NNP's that I work with is from, worms don't do this. One of the rainy mornings, as Lynn was coming in from the parking lot, she noticed a huge worm on the sidewalk. She couldn't just leave it there, so she picked it up, dug a hole, and put it back in the dirt. Problem solved, until she took another step. There was another worm!! I know, go figure. So she repeated the process, and looked around. Well, there were worms everywhere (mass suicide??) Lynn decided that she couldn't save all of them, because she had to get into work. Go Lynn- the saver of the earthworms. On another note, we have successfully replaced Chris the goat. I found a 2 year old goat for $20, SOLD!! Goats, surprisingly are not cheap. Brent went to pick the goat up from the very nice young girl who had raised him. When he got there the entire family was waiting to meet who was taking Mister, Brent thought it was strange but, whatever. Finally the mom of the family said that they just had to make sure that he was going to a good home, one that wasn't going to eat him?? WHAT!! I had no clue that people really ate goat. EWW
So, after Brent assured them that Mister wouldn't be dinner, he loaded him up (in the back seat of our truck) and drove him home. The back seat?? he felt bad for him, and didn't want to make him ride in the back of the truck. HELLO, GOAT. So, all is well in the Alvey goat household.

Death...

Yes, there has been a death at the Alvey house. Chris the goat has died, very peacefully I might add but, dead all the same. Brent and Bailey went to do a job last night, when they left Chris was alive. When they returned home he was laying dead. Bailey was very upset, but, we had a good talk, and he helped bury Chris. Martin, our other goat is horribly upset. So, I guess we are going to buy another goat tomorrow to keep him company. Lucky me.

Why there's only 2 cont....

So, here's Coltons part of why I only have 2 boys. Brent says that Colton and I butt heads so often because we are just alike. Whatever!! Well I guess alittle. (or alot) The 6th grade maturation program was a couple of weeks ago, Brent went with Colton, I told him that it's a boy thing. Besides the fact that he would have been mortified if I would have went. So they get home and I start to joke with him about what he has learned. He promptly responds "I don't want to talk about it." I say, well what did you learn? Him, turning redder, I am not talking about this with you!!! Well then, that's that. So, whenever Colton tries to get out of something or is lying to us, he has this really handy habit of pulling on the front of his hair, or shifting his eyes around. Very convenient for us to tell. Well I asked him if he had practiced his guitar, he said yes. I could tell he was lying (read above clues) and called him on it. Not being above telling a lie myself, I asked him if he ever thought about the class they make you take before having kids. A look of shock crossed his face, and he said that I was lying. I asked him what he thought I taught the new parents at my work?? He, getting more frustrated asked if I was telling the truth. Of course I, (being a much much better liar than him) proceeded to tell him all the ways that I could tell he was lying. Him, shocked said I guess you passed the class. (A+ all the way;) Next, lesson he learned was how convenient the history button is on the computer. Funny how all the websites that you visit just pop right up on this handy list. (Again the Mom class) So we got to have a talk about how not everything on you tube is OK, such as anything with NAKED, XXX, GIRLS DANCING. Oh my!!! yes him and his friends spent the afternoon watching videos on you tube.(Needless to say, mom and dad learned to set the security locks) Colton (see above clues) said I never did that. REALLY??? WHAT!!!! Did I ever think that my parents were this dumb???

Why there is only 2

There is a very good reason why I only have my 2 boys... they are going to be the death of me. No really, I'm pretty sure therapy is in order??? I'll start with Bailey... usually when the boys get home from school I'll ask how their day was, what did they learn etc. standard ?'s right. Bailey came home and said they had been learning about incubators, I said wow, he asked if I knew what you could grow in an incubator, I said chickens, he looked at me and said no, babies. What?? Babies grow in incubators and sometimes there is holes and you can put your hands in and pet the babies. Is that what you do at work? he asked. I said yes I pet the babies. Next example: we are sitting at the dinner table, Brent asks Bailey what he learned in school? Bailey responds "if you tell a Mexican to jump in a river, he will." WHAT!!! in between choking on our food and trying not to laugh, we both tell him that he can't say that, and have a lesson on political correctness. Very calmly, we ask him where he heard that. He says his teacher, again WHAT!!!
I tell him that I'm pretty sure that Mrs. Bybee didn't say that, but if she did... we are not OK with it. Next day, I go into his class to clarify what the lesson was about. She proceeds to tell me that they were learning about how sometimes language doesn't translate. Such as, if you tell someone who speaks Spanish to go jump in a lake or go fly a kite they will think that you mean it. My suggestion to her, use German for a language example. Later that night, I'm talking to a friend, Bailey is all ears of course. I tell him to go play, he looks at everyone in the group and proceeds to say, "you can talk in front of me, my mom lets me watch R movies all the time" Oh my HELL. He's killing me. Next Post Colton

Deep thoughts???

Random things I thought about today.
Gym clothes ARE NOT ok to wear-unless you have just finished at the gym or are going to the gym!
Men shouldn't wear basketball shorts in public unless they are REALLY playing!!
Underwear ARE NOT an option!! EVER!!! They are NECESSARY
There are people who should not have kids!!
SHUT your phone off!!! and drive
Jessica Simpson is not fat, if I looked like her, I would be naked shopping in Wal-mart!!
Anyone in mom pants will look fat, just don't!!
Last, but not least: If you have to say how hot you are, you probably AREN'T!!
Yes there's probably stories to go along with all of these.

B-day fun

Happy Birthday to Colton!!! 12 years old going on obnoxious teenager:) I had to work, so Brent braved the snow to take Colton and his friends to Toads for a party and pizza. They had a great time. Then after the entire fam (minus Vera, she has a cold and Ryan, working out??) went to La Ferrovia for dinner. Their food ROCKS!! The best italian ever, sorry Heidi, it's true. Brent, against my better judgement got Colton a gun for his present. I guess he has to have something to shoot the turkey with.

Ahhh....

He's the best!!! Love you Brent.

Too Cute

So, today is the day of the big 6th grade dance. Colton was so nervous this morning that he couldn't eat breakfast, and he had to take some tums. This has been a tradition at Kanesville since at least I was in 6th grade, so along time. The girls all have to dress up in dresses, and all the boys have to wear button-up shirts and ties. The Friday before the dance, everyone fills out their dance card. 5 boys choice, 5 girls choice. Oh the pressure, one of the girls that "likes" Colton, asked him on Tuesday, she was afraid that she wouldn't get her dance. When he got home we asked him how it went, and received a grunt. I think it translated to fun?? He's 12, and grunting already. He won't tell us who he danced with or anything else. Oh well, such is life.

They need a new hobby!

I don't know what it is about my house that attracts all the neighborhood kids?? Maybe that Brents shop has really "cool" stuff for boys, and there is always pipe and wood laying around. But anyway, we have another building project underway. 2 summers ago, it was the mother ship??? I know, what? Last summer, they built a "fort" in my backyard, that I made them move to the back pasture. Far from being fort like, it is more like a homeless squat. Really, if there was such a thing as a squat mansion, I own it. Lucky me. (I will post pics)

Why I do my job

I get asked alot about how I can do the job that I do. You know, the medical field isn't the most glamorous. Blood, throw-up, and other body functions are things we deal with everyday. Tuesday I had the chance to work on the cardiac floor instead of with my little babies. I had forgotten what a whole different world adults are. One of my patients, an elderly lady who is terminally ill, reminded me why I do my job. Every once in awhile tears fall while I'm working, usually I can control them, save them for later. There was a couple that slipped out while she was speaking to her son that was not in the area. She told him how proud she was, how much she loved him, how honored that he was her son and what a wonderful man he was. It touched me so much to hear her tell him these things. Afterwards, her nurse and I asked her if it was ok if we changed her bed linens, and gave her a bath. She was so gracious, and kind. As we were cleaning her she became teary eyed, and thanked us over and over. As we finished with her and smoothed her hair back, she again thanked me, I told her that it was my privilege. It is a privilege that I get to help people when they are at their worst, sickest, and even at the end of their lifes. All I was doing was my job, nothing extra, nothing special. Just my job. And I'm a better person for serving her.

I love my dogs!!

I love my dogs!! Sometimes more than people, no really. Bella is a jack russell terrier, and she really is Brents baby. She loves him more than anything. It really is funny, she doesn't want anyone to touch him and goes ballistic if you do. Growling and barking, she gets between us if I give him a hug. She also hates, hates games. Tag, hide and seek etc.. they drive her nuts. She was a gift from my aunt Sherry, when we first got her she only was 3lbs. she would snuggle under the covers or on our necks. She still sleeps under the covers, usually with Brent, but she will settle for me if he is not around. Brent calls her his baby girl, she has him wrapped around her little paw. If he gets home from work and doesn't love her right away, she is totally offended and will pout. All he has to do is pat his chest and she jumps into his arms. She is full of it!! all 11lbs of her, it is so funny to watch her take down Mo, our 120lb chocolate lab. She is THE BOSS and lets everyone know it. Mo on the other hand is my baby. When we got him, I was just thinking that I might want another baby, but not committed to it all the way. We went over to Brents parents and their next door neighbors had puppies. I'm a sucker I love puppies!! I of course HAD to go see them, I drug poor Brent over there, and came back snuggling Mo, it was love at first sight. He was mine, he did it for me, and the baby hunger went right out the window. We really thought that he wasn't very smart at first, but soon realized that it is all an act. He loves to sleep on the bed with me, but Brent is rude enough to take his spot(RUDE) so.. he learned that if the kids wake up at night they want their dad. Mo will wake them up, they come and get Brent, Mo gets his spot. Problem solved in his book. (only Brent has a problem with it??) He is a small pony, with a tiny, tiny dogs mindset. He will try to sit on you lap, and heaven forbid he gets scared, you can't stop him from jumping on. For whatever reason the cold air returns are VERY SCARY it is so funny, and if he is under something, you can't see him. It is hysterical watch Brent get mad at him and get him out from under whatever, he just can't believe it and is so confused asto how he was seen. I really do love them. (When I figure out how, I will post pics)

I figured it out!!

Yeah!! I have been trying to figure out this whole blog stuff, and usually have to rely on Heidi to help me but, I figured out how to post all by myself:) I know, big deal right?? Yes it is I am so excited. Even though Heidi is the coolest person I know, I don't want to make anyone jealous by going on and on about her coolness. So, this is my New Years goal to be better about keeping everyone up on what's going on with the Alvey's. Colton starts indoor soccer on Friday, it should be alot of fun. Indoor is so much faster and rougher than outdoor soccer, I love it. I'm not sure what we are going to do with Bailey for the winter yet. We'll have to see. Brent is getting buff with his x-mas present the bowflex. Makes me want to go back to the gym, oh well maybe tomorrow...

She's the coolest :)

I just wanted my first blog to be about my favorite person, Heidi, the best sister/sister-in-law a person could ask for. She is absolutely FABULOUS! One day we all hope to become just like her :) We can't say enough great stuff about Heidi... To know her, is to LOVE her!
